The Revue Theater Tropicana in Havana
The Tropicana in Havana has opened its doors on end of December in 1939 and is known as the Paraíso bajo las estrellas, as paradise under the stars. It is located in the district Marianao in a wooded area and unique as open-air revue theater.
The show of the Tropicana is a creative mixture of ballet, circus, carnival, bolero and cha cha cha with imaginative costumes and choreographies. The music extends from rumba, danzonete and mambo to latin jazz. The Tropicana is thus folklore, the rich coloring, the variety of rhythms, the grace and beauty of the dancers and the quality of the artists.
Numerous adventurous stories and names entwine around the Tropicana and numerous cuban and international stars made their performance there. Among them are Joséphine Baker, Bola de Nieve, Elena Burke, Libertad Lamarque, Cheo Feliciano, Nat King Cole, Rita Montaner, Tongolele, Xavier Cugat, Los Chavales de España, Carmen Miranda, Liberace, Pedro Vargas, Norma Duval, Alejandra Guzmán, Rosita Fornés.
